16.5 months

I know this blog is hanging on by thread (that is slowly unraveling)!  I'm surprised anyone besides my mom is reading anymore.  I really do have good intentions for blogging, but then it just never happens!

Our Jonah Bear is sixteen and a half months old now.  He is wearing 18-24 month clothing, and is quickly growing out of his size 4 diapers.  He wears a size 6 or 6 1/2 shoe (yes, that's right).  His hands and feet are huge.  This morning he palmed a basketball (it's a smaller sized foam one, but it was still big)!  We can't buy shoes with velcro anymore because the velcro won't reach across to fasten.

A couple of weeks ago, we had our first traumatic experience.  Jonah was playing outside and fell on the sidewalk.  When he caught himself with his hands, he somehow peeled his middle fingernail from one side to the other.  There were some blood  and tears, but he really only cried for about 5 minutes.  It looked TERRIBLE, and Jay went ahead and called the doctor, who is a friend.  Thankfully, we were able to go to the doctor's house for him to take a look.  He immediately said he really couldn't save any of the nail and gave Jonah 2 shots into his little finger to numb him up before he pulled off the entire nail.  I think I was a lot more traumatized than Jonah was... it still looks bad but he really didn't fuss about it at all once it was pulled off.  The band-aid he wore for a couple of days bothered him more than anything else!  Hopefully the nail will start to grow back soon.
Jonah is a really busy guy these days.  He has been a full-time walker for almost a month.  I LOVE that he is walking now! First of all, this kid is heavy!  I'd say he's about 28 pounds.  The less I carry him, the better.  :)  It's so nice to hold his hand and have him walk with me.  I think walking has also helped him to be more independent.  He can walk over to something and show me what he wants.  And walking definitely helps with playing outside, which is his favorite place to be!

We've been to several play dates and birthday parties lately.  Jonah is still not all that interested in playing with the other babies, but he loves to watch the big kids play.  He is also fine with sharing and doesn't fuss when someone takes a toy from him (we'll see how long that lasts!).  There is a park in town that we've visited a couple of times recently, and all the playground equipment is sitting in sand.  He LOVES it.  He doesn't even care much about climbing on things... just wants to walk around and play in the sand.

Right now, he has two obsessions: his plastic hammer and the Baby Einstein DVD "Baby Noah."  The hammer was a gift from Aunt Lauren and he carries it everywhere: all over the house, on car rides, into stores, you name it.  He has also taken quite a few naps with it. The Baby Einstein DVD was found at a resale store in town for $2.  I bought it because Jonah seems to love animals so much.  He has never cared about TV before, but he is absolutely mesmerized by this thing.  He will bring us the DVD case when he wants to watch it.  There aren't even any words... just video footage of animals in the wild and some animal puppets!  I don't see the appeal, but I'm glad he likes it!

His favorite animal is a duck.  Every time he sees a body of water, he yells, "Quack! Quack!" over and over again.  Sometimes he does it for no reason, in stores or at church or just to show us how much he loves ducks.  He's also enamored by our two dogs.  He will lay down next to them and pat their heads and he always wants to know what they are doing.

He still loves: wrestling with Daddy, going for walks, baths, drinking out of grown-up cups, the Swiffer, bananas, sleeping (still 2 naps a day), reading books, kissing, and "throwing" balls.

He has independent play time in his pack and play in the guest room for 30-45 minutes every day.  I'm so glad he's gotten used to this.

Lately, I've been really bad about reading other mommy blogs and being amazed at their children who are almost exactly the same age as Jonah and are saying 300 words, know every Crayola color, and are potty-trained (this might be an exaggeration).  Mommy-world is intimidating! I am constantly reminding myself that Jonah is perfect.  He takes his time with things and always has.  We "talk" all day long, but his vocabulary is mostly limited to "Momma," "Dada," "dog," "fish," "duck," "ball," and animal sounds.  We know he understands a lot more than that.  He has no interest in the potty except to stick his hand into the bowl and splash in the water (no, we don't allow it, but that is a go-to place for him).  He will get there one day, but right now I'm going to be thankful that my growing boy is still mostly a baby.

He is perfection!!! I wouldn't change a thing about him. PS - I think Aunt Heather should be on the list of Jonah's favorite things... :)
